Project Gutenberg has Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days" as both a French eBook and as a French MP3 audio book. Both are available free of charge from the Gutenberg site. Used in conjunction with the Avisoft French eBook reader this makes an excellent combination to help you to learn French!

Read a paragraph (or chapter) of the eBook using the eBook reader to help you translate unfamiliar French words into English, then listen to the audio while following the written text. The audio and text match perfectly so no need to struggle finding your place. Then try listening to the audio on its own and see if you can follow it.

This is an excellent way to make fast progress understanding written and spoken French. The story is also entertaining too, stimulating you to keep up the momentum and desire to read and learn more. You will be able to say you have read a classic novel in the original French!

The range of audio books available on Gutenberg is limited. However there are hundreds of other French audio books available to download free of charge on other web sites. Find a book that interests you and download both the audio (talking book) and the eBook (text) you want to read / listen to.

The site Litterature audio.com currently has more than 800 French audio titles with links to the corresponding text based eBooks.

A Google search for the term "livres audio télécharger" brings up more than 6 million matches! There are lots of books to chose from, both classic and contemporary.
